the palestinian state. it contradicts president obama's reading of our own history. in which african-americans engage in the successful nonviolent struggle for their rights within our own republic. mr. obama has transferred his views to the palestinian struggle. he has done this on several occasions. noting that the palestinians fight for their rights. i find that obama's reading of history, the painful memory of burning cities. it was also at the heart of the african-american struggle for their rights. i grew up in this era. and i think that we will remember if we delve into our memories of the president in 1968, lyndon johnson, could not employ the 82nd airborne in vietnam. though he wanted to. because it was in detroit. palestinians are not fighting for their rights. they have their rights. they are inalienable. even to them, as it says in the declaration of independence. they are inalienable by god. it is an entirely different kind of a struggle than a struggle for rights. the struggle for freedom includes a different kind of tactic. especially when those engaged by lunch counter

and michelle obama were the two people who said, listen, mr. president -- actually, valerie calls him barack. the only person in the white house, other than michelle, who does. you were elected to be not just president but to be a special president, a transformational president, a person who is going to change the direction and course of america, and you can't just do this piecemeal. you have toking take the whole thing. good for the healthcare bill, to go down in history as the first president to pass a national healthcare bill, and he listened to valerie and michelle, not to rahm emanuel, and this was the beginning of emanuel's erosion of power, because it was one of several examples to which the president listened to the ideology of valerie jarrett, rather than the pragmatic advice of rahm emanuel. and ultimately rahm emanuel was forced out of the white house by michelle and valerie jarrett, and to this day he resents that. >> host: edward klein, are you a conservative? >> guest: i think i would describe myself as someone who is right of center. if that makes me conservative, i

approval rating never recovered once he started tanking after his mr. salmond of hurricane katrina. so this is a big risk i think the president obama. he had to show that he was a leader, minimize any damage, look like he's engaged, and by the way, there's no -- how does he do that? he flew back from florida, state of the white house. he was on the phone with governors and mayors all up and down at eastern seaboard all day, monday and tuesday. chris christie, the governor of new jersey to his state was hardest hit by hurricane sandy has made some very favorable comments, a republican who spent a lot of time bashing obama, over the last couple of months, made some really favorable comments about the president. said he deserves a lot of credit for the storm handle but here's a moment in which the president can you show great leadership and an opportunity to sort of demonstrate the power of the white house and the power of incumbency, or he can screw it up and botch everything and end up losing reelection probably because of it. i think he's probably tilting towards the leadership side no

. obama says at least we are buying wealth. not low enough, it turned out. in december when his economic aid called with the first jobs report, she blurted out i am so sorry mr. president the numbers are just horrible. he said it's not your fault, yet. at one point david axelrod was in the white house and he wondered what would be like to govern in good times. the president just laughed at him. are you kidding? we never would have gotten the job. one thing my book does the other books don't is to get obama through the lens of his belief and his policies. i've got a lot of fly on the wall conversations in the white house and the background on capitol hill but this book also gets inside of battery factories and high-speed rail and yet the facility of that infamous solar manufacturer i think it's name was solyndra. my approach was trying to figure not what he's doing and this is the most important thing you should know about barack obama. he's mostly tried to do what he said he would do. he came into office with a well-defined theory of the case and he tried to put it into practice
